Summary:
The primary purpose of this position is to supervise employees who install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, align, calibrate, and rebuild multi-system avionics complexes consisting of multiple completely integrated electronic avionics systems where the complex accomplishes a number of major functions. The supervisor in this career field must also possess the ability to perform on-or-off equipment maintenance on one or more complete electronic integrated systems associated with the assigned aircraft and/or maintenance on automatic flight control systems, instrument systems, inertial and radar navigation systems. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Air National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to:
Serves as section supervisor, exercising supervisory responsibility over assigned integrated systems repair and maintenance work operations. Investigates work related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity and determines causes; implements corrective actions, within authority, to resolve work problems. Supports and explains management programs to subordinates. Implements safety regulatory requirements. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is primarily performed inside in well lit, heated, and ventilated areas. Occasionally, work may be performed on aircraft in high, restricted or confined places, and in environmental conditions of heat/cold and outside inclement weather. Incumbent is continuously subjected to hazards such as electrical shock, cuts, bruises, high intensity burns caused by electrical, RF energy, soldering irons, and explosive detonation from chaff/flares. Due to the requirement to upload and download chaff/flare dispensers, incumbent is involved in the storage, inspection, handling of explosive devices and works in a high noise and dangerous explosive environment. PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Light to moderate physical exertion is required in lifting and carrying items weighing from 10 to 40 pounds and occasional objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds. Mechanics are required to stoop, bend, and stand for extended periods of time on concrete or composition floors and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Heavy lifting is accomplished with assistance. GENERAL

Experience in performing, training and/or supervising assigned integrated systems repair and maintenance work operations. Experience demonstrating a working knowledge in the maintenance, repair, and modification of integrated multi-complex avionics systems. Experience demonstrating the skill in planning tasks for subordinate workers and expanded knowledge in using the equipment, facilities and materials. Experience demonstrating the skill in meeting deadlines, in using time management to satisfy priorities and work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher level supervisors. Experience demonstrating the ability to redirect individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work. Experience demonstrating the skill in articulating work requirements to higher level supervisors and experience in planning current and future work schedules, budget requests, staffing needs, estimates, and recommending projected work. Experience demonstrating competence in researching and addressing work related problems such as, excessive costs or low productivity; and, determining the relevant causes. Experience implementing corrective actions, within authority, to resolve work problems. Experience demonstrating the skill and knowledge to plan work and manage leave schedules. Experience demonstrating the ability to determine the types and levels of training needs, along with providing mentorship and guidance to subordinates for their professional skill and knowledge improvements. Experience demonstrating the ability to write performance standards and provided subordinates with formal appraisals of their work performance. Experience advising and counseling workers on how to improve their performance through explanations and demonstrations of work techniques. Experience demonstrating work efforts including initiating recommendations for promotion or reassignment of subordinates to senior supervisors. Experience demonstrating competence in reviewing job descriptions for accuracy and clarity. Experience demonstrating knowledge in the correct methods used to investigate, analyze, and resolve grievances and complaints. Experience involving providing recommendations for disciplinary actions. Experience demonstrating skill in applying interview techniques and understanding of body language patterns. Experience including interviewing candidates for vacancies and recommending selections to higher level supervisors. Experience demonstrating skill in conducting environmental safety requirements and identifying equipment handling concerns that resulted in observed safety and housekeeping practices. Experience including compliance with wearing the appropriate safety equipment and following pertinent safety precautions. Experience demonstrating skill and knowledge of management objectives and programs, that included addressing labor-management relations, Equal Employment Opportunity, internal controls, safety, energy conservation, environmental controls, and property accountability. Experience demonstrating skill in writing and presenting work reports and maintaining accurate records. Experience in participating in readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. Experience demonstrating work that involved accident/mishap responses, shift supervision, special project management, heavy equipment operations, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or served as a team member that responded to natural disasters or civil emergencies. This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a pre-employment physical examination prior to appointment. This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
